about

Inspired by the Eric Satie masterpiece, this composition in 6/8 starts with a light floater feeling, and follows with a child-like melody that incorporates the use of pentatonic scales, a nod to Debussy and French music impressionism, mixed with dynamic swing. As the title implies, this is the fourth of a series of original Gymnopédies, which were written between 1984-1985 mostly for piano solo execution. This particular one was always expected to be played as a trio or quartet.
