“Kurama” is an adaptation from the longer “Kurama Suite” in 3 movements. The japanese-inspired melody with a mystical feel and overall modal structure came to me prior to my first trip to perform in Japan in 2008. Being influenced by my wife Julia’s Reiki practice, I was drawn to the spiritual legends of the beautiful Kurama mountain North of Kyoto with its energy vortexes and Buddhist temple. The hard driving 3/4 straight eights rhythm is hypnotic and takes the listener through a voyage of many emotions.
