“Passion”, composed in 1998, has a unique commercial appeal given its immediacy and accessibility with the audience. This composition has been described as “a hymn and gets funkier as it goes, mixing the sacred with the secular in a moving way that ends by saying to us, philosophically, “It’s really all blues”. The inspiration for this piece is rooted in the tradition of Keith Jarrett open compositions such as “Country” and “In Your Quiet Place” and it was originally intended to be performed as a piano solo in a more intimate setting. This trio rendition is particularly appealing and compelling.
