“Preludio Flamenco” is a Spanish-inspired song written in a 12/8 feel that is characteristic of Buleria Style. The piece was written in 2020 in the middle of the pandemic and dedicated to 2 of my greatest influences: Chick Corea and Paco de Lucia. The harmonic structure based on Phrygian scales was borrowed from another of my compositions, originally called simply “Prelude”, an 8-bar structure with no melody. After using this tune as a tool for piano improvisation, I decided to finally give it full structure, write a melody, insert a bridge and a compelling ending. I also had this specific band in mind when I wrote the song, given Farko Dosumov’s familiarity with Spanish improvisation on the electric bass and D’Vonne Lewis’ refined touch.
